Workforce Alliance Honors Workers On Labor Day | Palm Beach ...

Workforce Alliance Recognizes Workers, Employers on Labor Day

In honor of Labor Day, Workforce Alliance is recognizing Palm Beach County?s workers who are struggling through the continuing economic downturn and the county?s employers that are taking measures to remain productive, avoid layoffs and bring a measure of prosperity to as many workers as possible.

??Making sure that our county?s workforce is prepared to meet the needs of current and anticipated employers is a priority for Workforce Alliance,? said Steve Craig, president and chief executive officer of Workforce Alliance. ?For this reason, we have set aside $2.5 million in the current program year for the training of job seekers whose skills need to be updated, funding employers who provide training for new and current employees, and granting training funds to job seekers who need courses from local training and educational institutions to help them transition into a new career field.??

The Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners proclaimed September 2012 as ?Workforce Development Month? in Palm Beach County. Commissioner Steven Abrams presented the official proclamation to Steve Craig and acknowledged, ?Workforce Alliance is critical to connecting employers with the talent they need to compete in today?s challenging economy. We are pleased to recognize their vital role by proclaiming September as Workforce Development Month.??

To combat the high unemployment rate of the county, Workforce Alliance programs helped to place 16,428 workers into jobs during the past program year, a record high for the second consecutive year.?

The services that are available at no cost to job seekers at Workforce Alliance?s three Career Centers include:

The use of computers, phones and faxes to assist in a job search

Workshops in basic computer skills and online job search techniques

Skill assessments

Job placement services

The career centers provide priority service and special programs for U.S. military veterans, programs targeted to assist those with disabilities and special programs for youth and young adults.

Recruitment and assessments of job candidates

Referrals of qualified candidates to open positions that they have listed

Workforce Alliance awarded more than $2.5 million in training incentives to Palm Beach County employers and job seekers to help fuel the growth of job opportunities and the general economy during the 2011-2012 program year. This included more than $300,000 in on-the-job training funds to employers for the training of new employees in the skills needed for their new positions.

?A trained and certified labor pool has proven to be an absolute essential for the competitiveness and profitability of the business community, the drawing of new employers into the county, and a corresponding increase in employment opportunities for everyone,? said Mr. Craig.?
