UK energy major BG Group (LSE: BG) has revealed plans to participate in Brazil's oil and gas licensing rounds next year.
The chief executive of BG's Brazilian operations, Nelson Silva, said the company was awaiting further details about the concessions from industry regulator ANP.
"Our expectation is that after the disclosure of conditions that are still unknown to us, we will be interested," Silva said during the Rio Oil & Gas Expo.
His comments came after the federal government announced the 11th round of oil and gas exploration licenses would occur next May, almost two years later than originally planned.
The auction will include 174 blocks - 87 onshore and 87 offshore - with the majority located in the northeast.
Federal energy minister Edison Lob?o also announced the first bid round for pre-salt exploration blocks would take place in November 2013.
Silva said BG would be interested in both the 11th round and pre-salt auctions.
Meanwhile BG Brasil and the Norwegian government have signed a joint venture to develop offshore exploration technology.
According to Silva the partnership aims to provide research on challenges posed by pre-salt drilling.
"Norway's deepwater experience in mature fields will be fundamental to our operations in Brazil," Silva added.
