PFT: Ex-coordinator apologizes for Saints bounty

nfl_g_warner12_576Getty Images

Former Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner, who absorbed a big hit during a playoff game against the Saints in his final NFL game, has responded to the news that the Saints were using a bounty system at the time.

?It?s definitely disappointing, but I won?t say that I?m completely surprised,? Warner told Burns & Gambo of KTAR in Phoenix.? ?And, again, not necessarily the Saints, but I?m not surprised that there were teams out there doing those kinds of things behind closed doors.?

Though Warner said he had no knowledge of bounty systems during his career, he said ?there?s no doubt? that players pay attention to the injury report, and that he believes players want to knock opponents out of games.? ?I think that?s part of the game, and I think that?s part of the mindset,? Warner said.? ?And I?m not going to tell you that I haven?t believed that there was probably defensive players that got together and said, ?Hey, you know, a thousand bucks for the first guy to knock Kurt out of a football game.?? I?m sure that?s been a part of our league for a long time.?

So did the hit against the Saints end his career?? ?No, absolutely not,? Warner said.? ?It was a nice exclamation point on it.?

Warner also pointed out that the hit from Bobby McCray wasn?t dirty.? ?It was a violent hit, no question,? Warner said.? ?But I also believes it was a legal hit.?

As to Warner?s suspicions regarding the existence of bounties well before 2009, he?s right.? Whenever past whispers regarding bounties have arisen, inevitably coaches and players have said that these things happen, with or without the knowledge of the coaching staff.

That?s why the league needs to take a broader view of this one before imposing discipline.? Like Spygate in 2007, the biggest sin for the Saints perhaps was getting caught.

The bigger question will whether the league chooses to make an example out of the Saints, even though other teams surely have used bounties.? Five years ago, the NFL definitely made an example out of the Patriots and coach Bill Belichick.? Given that bounties encourage injuries, it will be impossible for Commissioner Roger Goodell to regard the overriding culture as a mitigating factor.

That?s why, even though Warner thinks the hit he absorbed was clean, he believes that the NFL will need to take significant action in order to keep this from happening again.? So do we.? With concussion lawsuits raging, the last thing the league needs is to appear soft as to one of the harder realities of life in the NFL.

Guide to Bathroom Planning and Design | Home Improvement

bathroom 3 300x235 Guide to Bathroom Planning and DesignThis bathroom planning guide aims at providing you with bathroom design ideas useful in planning a bath space, dressing area or cloakroom. You may be planning a revamp of your old bathroom or doing it from scratch, these are some basic points you may like to ponder upon. Let?s start with the basic questions,

i) What is the area of the bathroom?
ii) Who will use it? Children, guests, you, two people or the whole family?
iii) What are the fixtures you would like to install?
(Shower cubicle, jets, tub, vanity etc)
iv) Which parts of the bathroom you plan to revamp?
v) Is the lighting appropriate?
vi) What bathroom furniture you would like to buy?
vii) Does it require plumbing work?

Start with first things first. Measure up the bathroom area and make a rough sketch with the fixtures you have, you wish to change, and even fix in case it?s a new bathroom. This will help you estimate the exact area you have around to play with. Next thing should fall in place with a realistic budget. Even if you are thinking of redoing the plumbing job, estimate the costs, for it can be expensive. With the budgets and fixtures you want in hand, it would be easy to dwell on ideas and new fittings. It could be a vanity, shower enclosure or a new tub; make sure you think of the space. It?s important to move around too, and you don?t want to clutter your bathroom.

Modular bathrooms done in little space are in vogue. There are more people looking for smaller bathrooms fitted with modern amenities. With meticulous and creative thinking, you should be able to fit in the things you desire, say a shower cubicle, for instance.

You get corner shower cubicles that save space and if there is space constraint, you could always use a separate overhead shower cubicle and use curtains to keep away the water splashing.

Tubs come in different shapes too and save your bathroom precious space. Get a deeper bathtub that saves space around the foot-end or baths where you sit straight, saving on the length. For bigger bathrooms, when you have good space on hand, you can play with the space with fewer constraints. Estimate the space, the gadgets and fixtures you plan to add. The saunas, shower cubicles and tubs are all possible, just work on it in a way that helps the space look open. Just let your creativity speak in your planning and design!

Bathroom fittings

To avoid any ghastly sites in the bathroom, you may need to pay attention to bathroom fittings. Detailed work and fittings like faucets and sinks can matter in fashioning your desired space,

?? Faucets
Modern bathroom Faucet may sound like the simplest thing to choose, but pay attention to details like mounting (wall/sink) and material. If you already have a faucet, maybe you plan to change the mounting, which can cost much more as it may also requires plumbing work.

?? Toilet Seats
Toilet seats come in different shapes and sizes. Depending on the available space, you can round up from a choice of elongated, rounded or corner seats. The elongated seat is great for comfort, but pay attention to details and dimensions. You don?t want your hands touching the ground when seated. Also, for smaller bathrooms, you can get one of those corner seats that save space.

?? Sinks & Taps
Sinks come in sundry shapes, colors and sizes too. The designer variety includes wall-mounted, counter sinks in steel, glass, ceramic and a combination of accessories and colors to match. Taps are functional things and you would like to consider the water flow and temperature control system before you buy. There are designer taps you get that is the perfect
combination of style and function.

?? Contemporary bathroom furniture
Be it a bathroom or cloakroom, contemporary bathroom vanities deserve great scores on utility and function. Work on the storage room and sink shape and size very closely. You get sinks in all shapes and sizes for both big and small bathrooms and in materials from fancy wood to steel and glass, so find something that goes with your bathroom theme.

Swizz Beatz's K-Pop Venture Brings 'Cultures Together'

'My goal is to migrate the cultures,' Swizz tells MTV News about his new partnership with Korea's O&Media.
By Nadeska Alexis

Swizz Beatz is notorious for having his hands in a few different projects at once. In addition to outside-the-box ventures like working with Christian Louboutin to score the music for Paris' Crazy Horse cabaret, the producer is currently focused on developing his joint venture with O&Media, which aims to introduce Korean pop music, or "K-Pop," to mainstream America.

"My goal is to migrate the cultures," Swizz told MTV News. "It's not about me being a feature or just producing K-Pop music; it's about migrating musical cultures around the world. And I just felt like starting with K-Pop, starting in Asia and opening up different outlets to something cool and new."

To spearhead this project, Swizz teamed up with popular Korean entertainment group O&Media. "That partnership has been coming about for a couple of months now," he said, detailing the progress they've made together so far. "We have a TV show component, a tour company component, a production company and a label. We're just active as the tunnel for artists that want to do things in the West, or artists in the West that want to do things in Asia. This is about a whole migration of cultures coming together under our umbrella to have an outlet to express themselves."

Part of Swizz's goal is to use elements from each music culture to help grow the other. "They still do artist development [in Asia], where back here in the States, the labels and our culture lacks artist development," he said. "Nowadays, an artist can go into the booth, put out a song the next day, and that person thinks that they're a superstar. But within the K-Pop movement, artists actually go through artist development. They take music classes that allow them to be ready for when they do become that big star.

"I think that introducing different cultures of music can help everybody out, and that doesn't mean I'm going to stop doing hip-hop or R&B music," he added. "I have love for all genres of music, because it's all art, and I just want to take the boundaries and lines of segregation and make them invisible."

In the simplest terms, the super-producer wants the love to be spread evenly across the musical world. "When we go to these different countries — Korea, Japan, China — as artists from the United States, we get treated like kings," he said. "We get treated like real stars. And I feel that when they come over to the States, as successful as they are, they should get treated the same."

What do you think about Swizz's K-Pop efforts? Let us know in the comments!

93% Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol

All Critics (193) | Top Critics (37) | Fresh (179) | Rotten (13)

Brad Bird passes his audition for a career as a live-action director. And "Ghost Protocol" more than makes its bones as an argument for why Tom Cruise should continue in this role as long as his knees, and his nerves, hold up.

"Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol" is sheer hurtling mechanism-and it's great silly fun.

As usual with the series, the movie combines a plot line a toddler could understand with gadgets that would baffle an engineering Ph.D.

I'm thinking it, so I might as well say it: Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol is no Fast Five.

...it's pretty much state-of-the-art.

Brad Bird's Mission made me feel like a kid again.

... a good-size barrel of fun.

still does not have the hang of what made the TV show so good.

Cruises on the WOW! factor.

Snagging Oscar-winning animation director Brad Bird to fill the director's chair proves to be an inspired choice--and, upon thought, a bit of a no-brainer.

The screenplay doesn't rely too much on gimmicks to advance the plot. Instead, the plot is also character-driven to an extent. There are interesting dynamics going on in the Mission Impossible team.

Director Brad Bird juices and gooses the whole affair with edge and excitement, new energy, humor and heartbeat, and a terrific feel for big, bold, audaciously daring sequences that beg for the biggest screen available.

Great stunts and not a dull moment,

Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol could very well be the series' best installment.

It has a few very good ideas, and then, the rest of it is totally lackluster.

Watching Tom leap from a hospital window on to a passing truck, I couldn't help but worry: Tom, those knees won't last forever.

Succeeds in dishing up exactly what you would expect: State of the arts stunts, non-stop action, and a series of clearly laid-out heists and chases that go awry in all kinds of creative ways.

Bird manages the escalations from the preposterous through the more preposterous to the most preposterous with skill and wit...

...great cinematic entertainment.

Better than the tower climb is the scene in which Hunt infiltrates the Kremlin with, essentially, a high-tech magic trick; the playfulness of the effect demonstrates the usefulness of Bird's background in the astonish-the-audience culture of animation.

So exciting you have to remind yourself to breathe.

NK agrees to nuclear moratorium

North Korea has agreed to suspend uranium enrichment, as well as nuclear and long-range missile tests, following talks with the US.

The US State Department said Pyongyang had also agreed to allow UN inspectors to monitor its reactor in Yongbyon to verify compliance with the measures.

In return, the US is finalising 240,000 tonnes of food aid for the North.

The move comes two months after Kim Jong-un came to power following the death of his father, Kim Jong-il.

Correspondents say the move could pave the way for the resumption of six-party disarmament negotiations with Pyongyang, which last broke down in 2009.

End Quote Statement North Korean Foreign Ministry

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the US still had "profound concerns" over North Korea, but welcomed the move as a "first step".

"On the occasion of Kim Jong-il's death, I said that it is our hope that the new leadership will choose to guide their nation onto the path of peace by living up to its obligations.

"Today's announcement represents a modest first step in the right direction."

North Korea confirmed the move in a foreign ministry statement released in Pyongyang.

The statement, carried by the KCNA news agency, said the measures were "aimed at building confidence for the improvement of relations" between the two countries, and said talks would continue.

"Both the DPRK [North Korea] and the US affirmed that it is in mutual interest to ensure peace and stability on the Korean peninsula, improve the relations between the DPRK and the US, and push ahead with the denuclearisation through dialogue and negotiations," it said.

Analysis

This deal is the first major international act of the new North Korean leader. But how much the agreement bears his personal stamp is unclear.

The air in Seoul was thick with rumours at the end of last year, about a deal which offered concessions on North Korea's nuclear programme in return for American food aid.

That was just before the former leader, Kim Jong-il, died - and contacts were disrupted.

But whether this deal is his doing, or that of his young son and heir, the speed with which it happened following the transition is striking.

Some will read that as a sign of political softening by the regime; others as a sign of North Korea's increasingly desperate need for food aid.

Either way, if agreement is implemented (and many have failed), it will mark the first small step towards peace in more than three years.

Yukiya Amano, director general of the UN International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said the announcement was "an important step forward" and that inspectors stood ready to return to North Korea, Reuters reports.

Earlier, a senior US military official said the issue of food aid for North Korea was now linked to political progress - contradicting earlier policy.

The North has suffered persistent food shortages since a famine in the 1990s, and relies on foreign aid to feed its people.

North Korea agreed in 2005 to give up its nuclear ambitions in return for aid and political concessions, as part of a six-nation dialogue process involving the two Koreas, the US, China, Russia and Japan.

But progress on the deal was stop-start, and the agreement broke down in 2009.

Contact between the US and North Korea aimed at restarting the talks began in July 2011.

A meeting last week between US and North Korean officials in Beijing was the third round of talks aimed at exploring how to bring North Korea back to the negotiating table.
